Well, you were right about one thing. She is a bit touchy.
[ Carol believes the exact words were "angry cat." ]

Nah, she was fine. Probably just annoyed I was bothering her at work.

Oh. yeah, she...I'm surprised she still has a job.
[She honestly is sort of worried she's going to be judged for liking such a nasty catgirl.]

[ Carol has no room to judge, having been herself something of a nasty girl in certain relationships. ]
Oh? Why do you say that?

[Not like this cat. Womp womp.]
Because she's rude. And kind of doesn't like dealing with customers.
Also, she freaked out when I went into that cafe once. I didn't know she worked there, I just heard there were cats. It was pretty public.

I didn't know she worked there, either. I went for the cats, like you did.
She does seem like she isn't the best suited for customer service work.

Yeah, not at all.
[Shruuuug. or the audible equivalent of it.]
What did you think? Other than angry.

[ Here they get to the crux of it. ]
She's cute! Seemed a little protective of you, when you came up in conversation. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Cute. Yes, definitely. When she's calm and relaxed, I think she's pretty adorable.
[Har har.]
...What did she say?

I mentioned that a mutual friend had told me about her, she wanted to know who that mutual friend was. I said it was you, she sort of...
[ How to describe it? ]
She acted like it wasn't a big deal, but I have a feeling it was.

It...probably was, honestly.
[Adora's turn to confess something.]
...I took her to New York on Valentine's Day.

[ It's hard to keep the hint of excitement at young love gossip out of Carol's voice. ]
That's a big trip. How'd it go?

It went fairly well, I think. We walked around Central Park. No fighting? I sparkled off a dog that was harassing her.

Right...
[ Because that's a normal everyday sentence that makes sense. Luckily, Carol already knows about Adora's sparkle power, so she isn't entirely confused. ]
Sounds like you had a good time!

Yeah, I think so.
[She didn't get scratched. That's a plus.]
...I think it's a work in progress to see beyond that, but still. It's definitely a good thing.
[She leans a in a bit closer.]
I totally got her to blush.
