〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Adora
CHARACTER AGE: 17-18ish
SERIES: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
CHRONOLOGY: End of Season 1
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Randomize me, Captain
BACKGROUND:
The Setting: Adora is from the world of Etheria, a lush and verdant planet that more or less combines magic with technology (though really it's technology providing "magic"). The vast majority of the technology stems from adaptations of First Ones (a vanished precursor race) relics. This technology is laced throughout the planet, regulating it's ecosystems.
The world is populated by humans and human/animal hybrids (like Catra the Catgirl), and divided up into various kingdoms. Each kingdom is ruled over by a princess with the exception of Bright Moon, which has an immortal Queen. It appears as though Bright Moon is the largest, or at least the most militarily largest, kingdom. Many of the kingdoms have a runestone, a large artifact of First Ones make, that gives them various magical abilities.
The setting also contains a major enemy, an alien force called the Horde, led by Hordak (yes that's his name), that crashlanded on Etheria. Their home base is called the Fright Zone (Yes...really). The Horde is a militaristic force that will stop at nothing to conquer the planet, and they are opposed by the various kingdoms of Etheria, though primarily Bright Moon.
Adora:
Adora herself is the principal character of the series, and much of the events unfold around her (mis)adventures. She was picked up as a baby by a Horde commander named Shadow Weaver, who claims she found her all alone as a babe, and she was raised as Shadow Weaver's own. Shadow Weaver was not exactly a loving parent, as she clearly put Adora through some extremely harsh and rigorous training while she was growing up. She raised Adora to be a soldier, doing everything short of brainwashing her into believing that the Horde was good and just and liberating the planet from the evil Princesses.
Adora excelled at her training and became a popular member of her training squad, hoping one day to become an officer in the Horde military. She had one friend that stood out above everyone else, a feline/human hybrid named Catra. The two of them were incredibly close growing up, and Adora constantly stood up for Catra, who was treated particularly badly by Shadow Weaver. Adora had no idea of the growing resentment her best friend had towards her because of Shadow Weaver's cruelty, and just sort of blundered on like a golden retriever, eager for her "mother's" praise while being stubbornly loyal to Catra.
Things changed, however, when Adora ventured beyond the Fright Zone for the first time and came into contact with the enchanted Sword of Protection and Princess Glimmer of Bright Moon. The sword granted her a kind of power and destiny, enabling her to turn from a powerless soldier into a legendary magical hero called She-Ra, and Glimmer showed her just what the Horde was really up to. Seeing a Horde raiding party attacking a village full of civilians changed things for Adora and she joined the Rebellion which placed her in direct conflict with her "mother" and Catra.
Adora assisted the Rebellion as She-Ra, acting both as a warrior and a symbol, bringing together various princesses to recreate a long-broken Princess Alliance. Adora fairly consistently was forced to fight against Catra, who seemed to aggressively seek her out. Eventually her former best friend kidnaps Glimmer and their mutual friend Bow and forces Adora to return to the Fright Zone. In a daring and dangerous rescue attempt that leaves Princess Entrapta, a technology specialist, presumably dead Adora manages to free Bow and Glimmer.
Glimmer is afflicted by some magical malady thanks to the interference of Shadow Weaver and Adora takes off to learn more about her powers in hopes of finding a cure but instead winds up finding more questions...and Catra. The two work together again briefly, until Catra ultimately decides that Adora never really cared for her (a lie) and leads her to betray Adora's trust and become a full on rival/nemesis. Adora connects with an AI within a First One's facility and learns more about her duty and destiny, to bring balance to Etheria.
Now filled with resolve, she returns to Bright Moon in time to stop a highly aggressive Horde attack that leaves the kingdom devastated. She's forced into a no-holes-barred battle against Catra herself, and nearly loses because she's still thinking of Catra as her friend...while the other is not. In the end, the Princesses win out and the Horde is driven back, leaving Adora and her friends time to rebuild and prepare for further conflict.
PERSONALITY:
Adora is, at her core, a good and moral person...and maybe a bit like a golden retriever. Doing the Right thing is arguably the most important thing in the world for Adora, and she willfully will put herself and anything else she has on the line to do what she considers to be morally correct. This trait defines her relationship with others and creates the primary interpersonal conflict within the series...the one between her and Catra. When Adora sees what the people she grew up with are doing she drops everything and leaves the Horde. In essence, she gives up her entire life, casting aside every single thing she's ever known for the opportunity to do some good.
Another trait that her leaving the Horde highlights is her ability to resolve to act and then just act without any hesitation. Adora does not do whinging and handwringing. She is the kind of person that can see something happening and go from zero to "Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead" in no time flat. This isn't to say that Adora is doesn't consider her actions without thinking, because she does, but more that once she has set her mind to doing something, she will see it through without changing course.
Adora also wants to be the hero, to rescue people and save them and protect them. She's always been the kind of person to intercede on another's behalf, as she does for Catra numerous times in their childhood together. She doesn't charge blindly into battle to slay her enemies, and she shows mercy to Horde soldiers constantly. Violence conflict is obviously unavoidable in warfare, but Adora seems to be set on hurting as few people as she possibly can.
Adora is portrayed as someone who is rational and logical and usually quite calm, a product of her being groomed to be a military officer. Adora is a strategist, and she always stresses the importance of being prepared for any given situation. She makes plans, usually fairly decent ones, and does her best to account for any variables she knows about. She very rarely freaks out or gets visibly frazzled, because of her generally orderly lifestyle. However she is sometimes prone to over-preparedness, and she's not very good at understanding social situations. Preparing for Princess Prom, for instance, drives her up a wall because of all it's seemingly frivolous rules and customs.
Adora's regimented lifestyle and spartan military upbringing have made her into a hardworking young woman who has a fair bit of trouble relaxing. She is not very good at sitting still, which we see when she visits a resort area in a neighboring kingdom, and she is quite uncomfortable with luxury. Her lavish accommodations in Bright Moon actually cause her to struggle to sleep, because she is unused to such luxurious surroundings, and to sleeping alone because she was used to resting in a crowded military barrack surrounded by other soldiers. She hates letting her hair down and changing her appearance from anything other than the practical and somewhat austere look she has for herself.
Due to this upbringing, Adora is also somewhat sheltered and naive. She doesn't know a lot about the outside world when she leaves the Fright Zone, and instead generally believes what she is told. That princesses are evil tyrants, that the Horde are heroes, etc, etc. She buys into what she's told and she's just a little bit gullible. She's also not terribly good at reading people, which leads her into some unfortunately bad decisions and generates still more conflict with Catra.
She's also a straightforward, reliable, and exceedingly loyal individual who has absolutely zero ability to be subtle. She can't lie, and her poker face is extremely bad. Her emotions tend to run close to the surface, too, especially strong ones. She is who she is and she's unwilling to compromise her values for the sake of ease or expediency. She has a no-man left behind attitude when it comes to combat situations, approaching life like a soldier should. Entrapta has been the one exception to this, as she was believed dead and it was not practical for her to fight her way back into the Fright Zone while under fire to retrieve what she thought was a corpse.
Finally, Adora is charismatic and charming. She is shown as a bit of a uniter, able to bring people together and lead them. She manages to get the disparate princesses Mermista, Entrapta, and Perfuma as well as the overeager and bombastic Sea Hawk to work together well enough to break into the Fright Zone and steal back Glimmer and Bow. She seems to have a natural talent for leadership that is somewhat magnified by her status as She-Ra and her being groomed as an officer. People follow her, they want to follow her, and they naturally look to her as a leader. It's almost like they know she'll do her best for them, no matter what.
POWER:
She-Ra Transformation: This is Adora's main canon ability. Adora raises the Sword of Protection and yells out: "For the Honor of Greyskull" and undergoes a magical girl transformation sequence into She-Ra. She-Ra is roughly seven feet tall, and changing into her unties her hair and gives her a tiara. Her costume becomes white with a red cape, and she glows with a golden light. It's every bit as cheesy as it sounds.
While transformed, Adora (She-Ra) gains super strength, superhuman durability, superhuman agility and healing powers. We see Adora performing feats of strength like smashing boulders and throwing around carts and breaking open tanks and other vehicles, while tossing robots and soldiers around like it's easy. She's got a lot of physical power but she's not likely going to throw around buildings or anything. We also see She-Ra shrug off damage from energy weapons and thrown objects, and it takes a lot of punishment to really phase her in any meaningful way. She is also shown as being very agile and nimble, moving gracefully most of the time, and displaying superhuman reflexes like parrying laser shots and such.
She-Ra's healing powers are a little stranger, because they aren't something that she's able to use all the time, they only seem to work when she desperately needs them. The one time they work on command She-Ra is empowered by the other Princesses and she literally restores a broken and shattered Bright Moon into a bright and colorful landscape with a literal rainbow wave of light.
For purposes of the game, I'd like for Adora to have a healing ability but only have it work during particularly dramatic narrative moments such as to save a dying friend. Or with help from other magical characters, giving Adora strength and her just kind of being the focusing point. Basically she just wouldn't have the ability unless something really calls for it.
The Sword of Protection: This is Adora's other canon ability.
The Sword of Protection is a magical item, an enchanted sword with numerous abilities that only Adora can use. Aside from enabling her transformation, the Sword can cut through anything shapeshift into a nearly impenetrable shield, deflect projectiles and grant magical abilities to animals. Additionally, it can interface with and repair First Ones technology, though I do not believe that would come up in game.
The sword's main functions seem pretty self explanatory and sword-like. It's an extremely sharp sword that can be used to block or deflect projectiles like a Jedi's lightsaber. Adora uses it for defense, and she's shown cutting apart vehicles and boulders with it, so it doesn't seem to get dull. Of course anything that a magic sword shouldn't cut through for plot purposes won't be cut!
The animal thing is a little unusual, and it only comes up once, accidentally, when Adora uses it to grant a horse wings and inexplicably develop the ability to talk. It is mentioned in passing as one of the powers She-Ra is supposed to possess though.
If it is allowable, I'd like for her to be able to do this exactly once in game, to transform a random ordinary horse into a winged pegasus. If that is allowable, I assume that would take up her third and final power slot. If this is allowed, I'd be happy with a non-talking horse, as based on the FAQ it looks like sentient pets are not allowed, and Swift Wind is sentient but the flying horse is kind of a part of the aesthetic.

[There is considerable a bit of static at first, and then a young woman appears in front of the camera, seating herself on a hay bale and turning a large sword over in her hands.]
So...okay, I hope this thing's working out okay. My name is Adora, and I'm looking for some new people to train with. It's been a while since I really had anyone to practice with, and I never did get a lot of formal training back home with a sword. I know the basics, and I'm pretty strong, but I want to get better. The threats here are kind of in a while different league than what I'm used to...so I need people to work with.
Sparring partners would be awesome, but people that know how to use a sword well would be the best, I think. N-Not that I'm gonna turn away anyone who wants to train with me or anything, though.
So, if you think you can help me out, please let me know. I'd appreciate it!
That's all...bye!
[And then she hangs up!]
